World Porters

This afternoon was perfect spring weather, sunny and mild with just a bit of a chill in the air.  The trees are starting to bloom with flowers, and you can tell that spring has just arrived.  We walked north past Izesakicho and then cut over to the water at Sakuragicho where we had nice views of the Landmark Tower (the tallest building in Japan) and Cosmo Clock 21, the ferris wheel.

We took the pedestrian bridge pictured above, not really sure where it was going to lead.  At the end of the bridge was an amusement park with several rides including Cosmo Clock 21 and a massive seven story department store called World Porters.  We decided to come back a different day to ride the ferris wheel, so instead we immersed ourselves in the land of the gigantic Japanese department store.  This place was overwhelming and awesome!  With display after display of colorful bright stuff and music and lights it was actually sort of dizzying:

Connor explored the tightly packed toy section:

We strolled past a huge section of stuff all for dogs, including designer sweaters, shirts, hats and jackets, plus little houses and beds made to look like cupcakes and castles.  Dogs really are wearing this stuff all over Yokohama.  In fact, I don't think I've seen a bare-backed dog yet:

Next was a visit to Dream Fiesta, the fifth floor arcade with games galore, flashing lights and music, where Dylan unsuccessfully tried to win a toy for Connor by playing a game that cost 200 yen (a little over $2):

There was more to do, but it was time to go if we were to bathe our baby and feed him dinner before his 6pm bedtime.  We made a quick stop on the way out to check out the intricate plastic food display outside one of the restaurants, something we have grown accustomed to seeing over the past few days:

We also went all the way up to the top floor roof deck garden and putt putt course:

World Porters was an accidental adventure for us and quite a place to spend the afternoon!
